Golam Kader Zilany has been working as a Senior Lecturer at ULAB since October 2019. Over the years, he progressively developed interest in the areas of syllabus design, curriculum development, instructional materials, and assessment practice. He teaches EAP (English for Academic Purposes) courses along with Master’s courses in the fields of curriculum, syllabus design and assessment.
Prior to joining ULAB, he worked as a faculty member of Brac Institute of Languages (BIL), Brac University from March 2011 to September 2019. During his service at BracU, he used to teach courses titled ‘ELT Leadership & Management’, ‘Language testing & Evaluation’ for its MA in TESOL program. Moreover, he also taught foundation and advanced EAP (English for Academic Purpose) courses. Importantly, he was the team leader of a project named ‘Reshaping English Language Teaching and Learning Experiences at Tertiary Level through Teacher Developed Materials’. As part of this project, he also designed and facilitated eight weeks long training for teachers’ capacity development in material development. Additionally, being part of Professional Development Center (PDC) of Brac University, he was responsible to conduct session on 'Assessment Issues and Practices in Higher Education' for university faculty members.
His research areas include social justice, language policy, teacher-learner identity and assessment. Philosophically, he is very much influenced by the work of Pierre Bourdieu. For that reason, he always tries to explore the issues that unfolds the power dynamics in the society.
